Frequently asked questions

1. How do I redeem my Active Kids Voucher?

Active Kids Rebate vouchers can be redeemed for swimming lessons at Peakhurst Swim School. Vouchers can be redeemed at your pool reception desk .

2. Does the Pool operate the same as the school term?

Our lessons are run year-round, with the exception of a break over Christmas and the New Year period. Year round lessons are the key to consistency as swimming is a skill that requires regular practice.

3. Are all teachers Qualified?

All of our teachers and coaches are required to attain a nationally recognised teaching qualification. Either Austswim or Swim Teachers Australia qualification in addition, they complete our own intensive Swimming teacher training.

4. What is the temperature of the pool?

Peakhurst Swim School is heated to 32 degrees for the optimal learning environment for kids of all ages.

5. How long will it take for my child to learn to swim?

Think about swimming lessons as a long-term process, rather than an event. To ensure continuous skill development, lessons need to be a regular part of your child’s weekly routine. As children learn, they progress at their own pace and master the skills appropriate for their age. We consider a child to have learned to swim well when they can perform the promotion skills of our development level – these include swimming 400 metres Freestyle, 200 metres Backstroke, 100 metres Breaststroke, and 50 metres Butterfly, all with correct starts and turns and maintaining good technique over those distance

6. Should I continue classes during the Winter?

Winter is a great time to keep your children active, healthy and building on their swimming skills.
We find that swimmers who drop out of our program during winter often have difficulty picking up where they left off. Our indoor heated pool with consistent warm temperatures, make lessons comfortable all year round

7. Does Peakhurst Swim School use floatation devices?

Although we use some aids, such as noodles and kickboards, we don’t use arm bands and back bubbles in our classes. It is easy to develop a false sense of security when using these and this can be dangerous. They also tend to keep a child’s head and body in a semi vertical position, which develops bad habits.

8. What are the Benefits of starting lessons from an early age?

Evidence suggests that children who participate in regular swimming lessons at an early age are better prepared for learning in other spheres. Our Water Confidence and Preschool programs emphasise safety and survival skills such as breath control and submersion, turn around swims back to the wall and backfloating.

9. Can I change my lesson time?

You are free to change classes at any time so long as we have an available space /time that suits your preference , you don’t have to wait for re enrolments as we run consistan

11. What are my payment options?

Peakhurst Swim School offers the flexibility of monthly direct debit or upfront payment options

12. What is your makeup lesson policy?

We understand children get sick and at times are unfit to attend classes, for this reason, Peakhurst Swim School offers 2 make up classes per 12 week cycle. Make up classes cannot be carried over to the next cycle of lessons.

Please note Our programs strive for consistency, Offering makeup lessons compromises this consistency by creating too many changes to routine, including teachers, time of day and groups of children. Past experience has shown us that participating in a makeup class with an unfamiliar teacher is disruptive to both the child taking the makeup class and importantly, for the other children in the class as well. For these reasons, we request that you make each class.

For lessons missed due to public holidays or pool closure, the monthly fee will be reduced accordingly.

Swim caps for children 3 years and over must be worn  in all classes at the Peakhurst swim school to allow for a much more hygiene environment . Swim caps will be provided upon enrolment at Peakhurst swim school .
